JAMMU, Oct 12: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla has asked the Floriculture Department to gear up its men and machinery to maintain and renovate all the recreational parks situated in the urban pockets of City of Temples.
The Minister issued directions to the concerned officers who accompanied him during his tour to Gandhi Nagar Block-A, here today.
Bhalla said the Government is committed to develop healthy environment in the urban cities by developing greener patches in the open spaces, adding that for this purpose, a comprehensive plan has been prepared to develop the recreational parks with facilities like seating, drinking water, illumination, walkway, landscaping and fencing. He called upon the people to avoid littering inside the parks and help in maintaining cleanliness.
The Minister said the Government is making all out efforts to beautify the open spaces by developing walkways or recreational parks.
Responding to the local demands, Mr. Bhalla asked the JMC and Floriculture Department to work in coordination for renovation of damaged walkways. He called upon the people of the Gandhi Nagar and Shastri Nagar areas not to dump building as well as waste material in parks, adding that such practices not only create hindrances for executing agencies but also dampens the beauty of park.
The Minister said instructions have been issued to the JMC, R&B, Floriculture, PDD and PHE Departments to take up sanitation works, repair of faulty street lights, renovation of public places besides ensure regular drinking water and improved power supply in view of the forthcoming Eid and Diwali festivals.
Mr. Bhalla said Government has earmarked Rs. 3.65 crore for development of recreation cum health centre and multi play club for children at the available proposed site at Channi Himmat in Sectore-1. He said the project is under progress on war-footing and would be completed within one year by Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board.
