JAMMU, July 2: Castigating PDP-BJP coalition for weakening traditional amity and regional harmony in a sensitive State like Jammu and Kashmir, former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today accused the two parties of playing to galleries to conceal their inherent contradictions.
“PDP and BJP are creating hype and plunging the State into uncalled for controversies over issues which are no way connected either with governance or the much touted development”, Bhalla said while addressing gatherings at Bhour Kullian, Bhour Pind and Bhour Camp in Gandhi Nagar constituency as a part of ongoing mass contact programme.
He alleged the PDP-BJP leaders are busy only in delivering sermons and repeating the often repeated hollow claims. However, he said the fact remains that developmental activities are almost invisible and no concrete measures are taken to address the issues of livelihood. “Unemployment is a huge challenge for the state and this problem contributes to the political uncertainty and unrest. Instead of taking concrete steps to provide means of livelihood to people, the present government has neglected it completely”, he said. He said all the important projects of Jammu region whether it is Jammu AIIMS, Smart city, artificial lake project, the Chenab water supply scheme, construction of the Rehari Chungi- Jewal Chowk flyover, ring roads are lying unattended.
Bhalla further said that PDP-BJP Government has failed in getting Goods and Service Tax implemented in the State, which led to chaos among the business community. ‘It was unfortunate that BJP has been hoodwinking the people of the State and the business community in particular about enforcing GST in J&K,’’ Bhalla said and added this callous approach has alienated the State from the rest of the country, where GST has been implemented with the stroke of midnight.
He dared Coalition Government to show progress in any of the sectors since they are ruling in J&K, other than discrimination, betrayal and cheating people of Jammu region. Notwithstanding the claims of Government to construct 4000 kilometer roads this fiscal year, the situation on ground is totally disturbing with most of roads in Jammu city and its outskirts in shambles- the main reason for this being that the Kashmir valley reeling under unrest for quite a long time now, so the Government is not showing any interest towards the developmental works in Jammu region also.
