‘Bamboo’ clusters to be set up in J&K: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Feb 27: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that “Bamboo” clusters and Technology Centres will be set up in the newly created Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, particularly in the bamboo rich districts like Kathua, Samba, Reasi and Rajouri.
Speaking to media after convening a meeting of senior officers of Ministry of DoNER and North East Council (NEC), Dr Jitendra Singh revealed that very soon an MoU is proposed to be signed between the officials of the DoNER Ministry and the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, whereby the DoNER Ministry and the NEC will collaborate by offering technical support and help in capacity building of bamboo growers. The region has huge potential for bamboo entrepreneurship, which is waiting to be explored for revenue generation and job creation, he added.
During the meeting, Dr Jitendra Singh was informed that nearly 93% of the budget of the Ministry of DoNER for the current financial year had already been spent till date, with over one month still left to go. The Minister pressed upon the officials to ensure 100% target by the end of this financial year, which will be a record in itself, because earlier, just 75% to 80% of the budget used to be spent in the whole year.
Dr Jitendra Singh was also updated about the current status of the construction work of a new hostel for North East students in the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He was informed that the construction work is in full swing. Similarly, for the construction of the first ever North East Convention Centre (NECC) at a prime location in Dwarka in New Delhi, the work is going to start very shortly.
It was also brought to the notice of the Minister that under State Infrastructure Development Fund (SIDF), projects worth Rs.587.17 crore have already been sanctioned. Out of this, an amount of Rs. 504.10 crore has already been released.
During the last six months of the Modi Government 2.0, a total of 212 central projects costing Rs.3512.45 crore have been implemented by the Ministry of North East (DoNER). It was also informed that an amount of Rs.32.28 crore has been sanctioned for 15 new Start-Ups, which has instilled a lot of enthusiasm among the new entrepreneurs.
