Baby born in flight over Nile

DOHA, Jan 15: A baby born in an overnight flight to Uganda has been named ‘Miracle Aisha’ after the Canadian doctor who helped deliver her, reports said on Saturday.
Dr Aisha Khatib, a professor at the University of Toronto, was in the flight of Qatar Airways, travelling from Doha to Entebbe, when the intercom announcement came about the requirement of a doctor on board was made.
A Ugandan migrant worker on the flight from Saudi Arabia to home was in labour for her first child.
“I saw a crowd of people gathered around the patient,” BBC quoted Khatib as saying.
“As I got closer saw the woman lying on the seat with her head toward the aisle and feet towards the window. And the baby was coming out!”
The doctor was assisted by two other passengers, a nurse and a paediatrician.
The baby was stable, and the mom was OK, said Khatib.
“So I was like, ‘Congratulations it’s a girl.’ Then the entire plane started clapping and cheering and was like ‘Oh right, I’m on a plane and everybody is watching this,'” she said.
“The best part of the story is that she decided to name the baby after me,” the doctor said.
The doctor gifted the new born a gold necklace, with Aisha written in Arabic.
“I thought I’d give it to her and she’ll have a little token of the doctor that delivered her at 35,000ft while flying over the Nile,” she said.
The baby was delivered on December 5, but Khatib was busy treating corona patients in Toronto. She shared the pictures this week.
