JAMMU, Aug 4: ‘Avaam Ki Avaaz’ today urged the Chief Minister and District Administration to intervene in the issue of farmers at Ranjan in Gharota area, where some land mafia in connivance with officials of Government departments including Revenue Department are trying to grab the land of the farmers.
Addressing a press conference, President, Avaam Ki Avaaz and social worker Inder Mohinder Tar Singh said that land mafia in connivance with Government departments especially the officials of Revenue Department are trying to grab the land of poor farmers in Ranjan area of Gharota.
“Land mafia is trying to take possession of the poor farmers’ lands, which the latter possess with them for the last over three to four generations”, he added.
Singh further stated that 25 families of farmers, who have been cultivating the State land bearing Khasra Numbers 1451 and 1456 at village Ranjan in Gharota were being tortured with land mafia and revenue department since 2013, adding that the farmers were being threatened by the land mafia comprising of hundreds of people carrying deadly weapons several times.
This land was stayed maintaining the status-quo by the Court, he said, and appealed the administration and Chief Minister to come to the rescue of the hapless farmers.
Among others present were Kali Dass, Puran Chand, Madan Lal, Girdhari Lal, Ganga Ram and Ram Lal.
