JAMMU, Aug 9: Tall claims of the Government about providing best health care facilities to the patients have been proving hollow, as the fully automatic “Auto Analyser” machine in the Bio-Chemistry Laboratory in the Shri Maharaj Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital is lying defunct for the past few days.
Official sources told the EXCELSIOR that the “Auto Analyser” machine in the Bio-Chemistry Laboratory of SMGS Hospital is non-operational for the past few days due to some electrical snag. Sources added that the hospital administration has been unable to make it functional, thereby making the patients and their attendants to suffer.
Due to non-functioning of the machine, patients are being compelled to get their tests conducted from the private clinics or from the already over-crowded Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Despite repeated reminders to the hospital administration, no effort has been made to repair the machine, sources said, adding that there is “earthing” problem in the machine and needs immediate repair.
Sources informed that the machine is used to conduct Liver Function Test, Renal Function Test and Lipid Profile (Cholesterol level test, Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT), etc.
The private company which had installed the equipment and other allied gadgets has not been responding to the repeated request of the management, sources added.
One of the attendants alleged that there is no proper facility in the only maternity institution of the Jammu region.
“If we get the test conducted from the private clinics, the doctors do not accept the report and on the other hand, their own machine is non-functional and in such a case, where will the patients go”, he added.
When contacted, Dr Dara Singh, Deputy Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital confirmed that the machine is non functional. He said that there is ‘earthing’ problem in the machine, for which they had informed the concerned company, adding that the machine will be made functional in the next few days.
Regarding conducting of tests presently, Dr Singh said that the hospital collects the test samples and takes them to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in ambulance. After getting the tests done there, the reports are provided to the patients in the hospital, he added.
