JAMMU, Feb 11: On the second day of strike by the employees of public sector banks, maximum ATMs ran out of cash and people had to face hardship while normal banking operations also remained suspended.
The call for strike has been given by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) for revision of wages of the bank employees.
Like other parts of the country, public sector bank branches and offices in Jammu remained closed for the second consecutive day with employees as well as officers striking work in support of their demand.
A massive demonstration was held today by the officers and employees of State Bank of India near the administrative office, Rail Head complex. The protesting employees raised slogans in support of their demand and against the IBA as well as Government for their rigid approach.
Addressing the protesters, Suresh Wali, DGS SBI Officers Association and Sham Lal Hans, DGS SBI Staff Association, highlighted the demand vis-à-vis adamant and rigid approach of IBA, which has failed in its responsibilities to bring about an amicable settlement to the issue of wage revision.
They strongly criticized the Union Finance Minister’s remark that profit earned by the banks is not for sharing among the employees. Bank officers and employees rightfully have a claim over a small portion of the huge profit earned by them for the country’s economy, they added.
Among those who spoke on the occasion, included Satish Sharma, Harinder Arora, C S Kohli and Ram Raj Sharma.
A meeting of PNB Officers Association was also held today to take stock of the nationwide two-day strike.
On the occasion, Com V K Dutta, general secretary, informed that all branches of nationalized banks remained closed for the second consecutive day today. He said that the bank staff was fully prepared to proceed on indefinite strike if need be.
Others who addressed the meeting, included Com Vinod Kumar, Com S L Razdan, Com T K Sharma, Com Ashok Sahni and Com Rajiv Malhotra.
