JAMMU, Aug 20: In continuation of Army’s drive to express solidarity with the local populace, the ‘Chenab Gunners’ presented eight sewing machines (with stands) to women under operation ‘Sadbhavana’.
The Community Centre, Mandiwala, for imparting vocational training to women was also furnished by the Army, as part of the inititative.
The function was organised inside the Community Centre, Mandiwala and was attended by a large number of senior citizens, village elders, veterans and ladies.
The sewing machines were presented to women by the Commanding Officer of the unit, on behalf of the formation, through the Sarpanch of the village.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch of the area, Pawan Sharma expressed his gratitude for the Army’s thoughtful gesture and praised the all-out efforts being undertaken by the Army and the Crossed Swords Division, for empowering the women folk of the area.
He further said that the sewing machines provided to the women by the Army would enable them to become active earning members of the society as of course of their families, and would serve to make them strive to acquire better skills and to meet their aspirations.
He also lauded the Army for providing safe, secure and tranquil environment to the civil populace for ushering in development and their overall well being.
