Doda, June 5: The Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhaderwah under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) organized Ex-servicemen Mela today at Government Degree College ground Bhaderwah for redressing the grievances and welfare of ex-servicemen and Veer Naries from districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban.
The event was inaugurated by Major General A.K Sharma, General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Force (Delta). The function was attended by a large number of civil and military dignitaries including District Development Commissioner Doda, Mubarak Singh, Superintendent of Police Doda, M.S Chauhan, Sub Divisional Magistrate Bhaderwah, Bhupinder Kumar and host of other personals from civil administration, Police, CRPF and prominent citizens of Doda district.
The event also witnessed huge gathering of young college and school students from the region. A total of 2000 people including 154 ex-servicemen and 25 Veer Naries attended the Mela.
The main aim of the Mela was to felicitate the ex-servicemen and Veer Naries and to address their grievances while making them aware of the various re-settlement and welfare projects initiated by Armed Forces and Central Govt. from time to time. The Mela also showcased number of demonstrations for the entertainment which included Dog Show, Weapon Display and Band Display. Large numbers of locals turned up to witness the mesmerizing display and were thrilled by the initiative taken by Army in Bhaderwah.
Speaking on the occasion, General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) exhorted the ex-servicemen to continue contributing to society and nation building. He also highlighted the contribution of our veterans and gallant soldiers who made supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Mr. Singh speaking on the occasion praised the Armed Forces including retired defence personnel’s for their contribution in the hours of need and emergency in the society and for encouraging such constructive activities in the region which helps in diverting the energies of the youth in right direction thus helping in weaning them away from terrorism.
