Army jawan from Jammu killed near China border

JAMMU, Aug 3: A pall of gloom descended on Suchetgarh village in Tehsil RS Pura after hearing the news about killing of Army jawan being hit by a boulder falling from a hill following a landslide near the India-China border in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district.

Soldier Sukhjinder Singh, son of Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Suchetgarh District Jammu was killed as he fell into a deep gorge after being hit by the boulder, he said.
The heart rendering scenes were witnessed in the village as neither his family nor relatives and the villagers had ever thought that soldier Sukhjinder Singh will not come alive from his place of posting.
Soon after hearing the news, the relatives and other villagers rushed to soldier’s residence and tried to console the grief stricken family members who were sobbing and wailing and could not understand what has happened to their son.
Hundreds of mourners assembled in the village to shoulder the dead body after it was brought down from the ambulance.
“My son was very happy as his sister’s marriage was to be solemnised this year in December. We were busy in the shopping of his sister’s marriage and suddenly this heart wrenching news came”, the soldier’s father said.
A senior police official said that the mortal remain of the soldier is expected to reach at his native area late night and cremation will be held tomorrow with full military honours.
