NEW DELHI, Jan 29: The funeral of Colonel Munindra Nath Rai, the Commanding Officer of 42 Rashtriya Rifles, who laid down his life fighting hardcore Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, took place here at Brar Square cremation ground with full military honour. Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag along with a large number of military officers, family members of the martyred officer and number of people from the society bade him a tearful adieu. Colonel Rai laid down his life while battling terrorists in Tral area of South Kashmir on Tuesday. Five people, including a policeman and two ultras belonging to HM were killed in the encounter.
The body of slain Colonel wrapped in tri-colour was brought to cremation ground with full military traditions. The Army Chief placed a wreath on his body to pay respect to officer.
People gathered at cremation ground broke into tears as the teenage daughter of the Colonel gave a crisp military salute to his father.
Colonel Rai is survived by his two teenage daughters and a son. (UNI)
