Arms, ammunition missing from NC leader’s house

Srinagar, Apr 25: Two AK-47 Rifles and ammunition of the Personal Security Officers (PSOs) of a National Conference leader in South Kashmir district of Anantnag have gone missing from NC leader’s highly guarded house.
According to reports, 3 AK-47 and one Insas Rifles were issued to four PSOs of NC leader Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, brother of former NC MLA Rafiq Sheikh of Kachdora in Shopian and two of them have gone missing.
Two AK-47 Rifles, 6 Magazines and 180 rounds of ammunition have been found missing from the house of the NC leader as the PSOs were unauthorizedly absent from the duty.
Reports said that these Rifles were kept in cupboard inside NC leader’s house and when the PSOs returned to duty from unauthorized absence, they found it missing.
The NC leader has four PSOs which include Constable Reyaz Ahmad belt No. 717 of Police security, Selection Grade Constable Shoukat Ahmad belt No 475 of police security and constable Shamsdin belt No 229 of IRP 20 battalion.
The house of the NC leader is highly guarded by a platoon of 14th Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force Personnel (CRPF). All the visitors to the NC leader’s house are being frisked by the CRPF before allowing them inside the house.
DIG South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that since the PSOs belonged to security wing of the police and they have not lodged a formal complaint yet. He said that once they lodge a formal complaint the PSOs will be arrested and investigation will be started into missing weapon case.
The DIG ruled out any militancy angle to the missing of weapons. He said that residence of the NC leader is highly guarded and probably the PSO might be themselves involved in the theft of the arms and ammunition.
DySP Shopian, Manzoor Ahmad said that police is investigating the case and the arms and ammunition has not been recovered yet.
Meanwhile Police, Army and CRPF in a joint operation in the South Kashmir district of Anantnag today arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and recovered explosives from them.
A police spokesman said that police, 19 RR of army and 40 battalion of CRPF recovered 4 IEDs from Kokernag from the possession of the two OGWs, Bilal Ahmad Mir son of Gull Mohammad Mir resident of Bufandan Mohalla Cheni-Chowk, Anantnag, and Shabir Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Rasool Khan Resident of Watnard, Kokernag.
Police said that this is the third militant module that was busted in district Anantnag during this month. Police have registered a case and further questioning of OGWs is going on.
