JAMMU, Jan 9: Government today directed all the Public Authorities in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to immediately appoint Public Information Officers (PIOs) and First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) in all the administrative units/ offices in terms of Central Right to Information Act, 2005.
EXCELSIOR in today’s edition exclusively reported that even after the lapse of over two months the Government of J&K UT has not started acting on various important provisions of the Central Right to Information Act much to the disappointment and confusion of the RTI activists.
It has also been mentioned in the report that majority of the Public Authorities have not appointed PIOs and FAAs, which otherwise is the foremost step towards implementation of Central RTI Act.
“Consequent to repeal of Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act, 2009 and application of Central RTI Act to the UT of J&K, all the Public Authorities are mandated to appoint PIOs and FAAs”, read the order issued by Secretary to Government, General Administration Department Dr Farooq Ahmed Lone.
