Ladakh accords warm reception to Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche

LEH, Jan 9: Ladakh accorded a warm reception to Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche at Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport today.
Gyalwang Drukpa is the spiritual head of Drukpa Kagyud lineage of Buddhism.
This is the first visit of Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche to Ladakh after the grant of Union Territory status to Ladakh.
Prominent personalities present to receive Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche were Skyabje Younzing Rinpoche, Skyabje Thuksey Rinpoche, Khamtak Rinpoche, Urgain Rinpoche, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Executive member led by
President PT Kunzang, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Executive Councillor for Agriculture Phunchok Stanzin, Executive Councillor for Education Stanzin Konchok, Councillors, LGA President Venerable Shatup Chamba, monks and Chakzots from Hemis, Chemre and Korzok monasteries, members of Young Drukpa Association (YDA) and heads of political organizations.
Later, Gyalwang Drukpa along with other Rinpoches was taken in a motorcade to Chowkhang Vihara where LBA and LGA representatives offered Mandal Tsensum to Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche.
Speaking on the occasion, Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche stressed upon the need of communal harmony among different faith and religion. “Buddhism have different sects but all sects comes under the umbrella of Buddha and all sect’s prime goal is to follow the teachings of Buddha” said Gyalwang Drukpa while addressing a large audience in Chowkhang Vihara.
Stressing the need for having serious concern about Environmental issues, Gyalwang Drukpa said that clean environment makes healthy eco system for all sentient beings to live happily. He appealed to the people to avoid alcohol and adopt vegetarian as some scientists are of the views that non-vegetarian also disturbs the environment.
Earlier welcoming Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche in Leh, LBA President PT Kunzang appraised him about UT Status to Ladakh after 70 years of struggle. He urged the people of Ladakh to follow the teachings of Gyalwang Drukpa.
LGA President Shatup Chamba also spoke on the occasion.
Skaybgon Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche is scheduled to teach weeklong teachings at Hemis Monastery from 10th to 17th January known as Winter Hemis Teaching Festival.
