The attention of the Public Service Commission is drawn towards the SRO-286, dated 12/07/2017.
The Directorate of Fire and Emergency have referred post of Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Service to the JKPSC. The commission in pursuance of Notification 12-PSC (DR-P) of 2017 Dated 27/11/2017 have accordingly invited applications from the candidates for selection, last date of which has been fixed 30/12/2017.One of the conditions for eligibility under “minimum height” has been fixed @5.6 inches, without giving relaxation to the candidates belonging to Ladakh. This has prevented candidates belonging to Ladakh from applying for the said post. It would be pertinent to mention that the Jammu & Kashmir Government has already granted relaxation to the candidates of Ladakh applying for employment under Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service, Jammu and Kashmir Police Service, Jammu and Kashmir Account service vide SRO-387 of 2008 dated 01/12/2008 and SRO-190 OF 2016 dated 07/06/2016.The height for the Ladakhi candidates has been fixed @5.2 inches minimum for male and 4.7 inches for female candidates. The relaxation in height unless given to the candidates belonging to Ladakh would deprive a large number of educated youth from applying for the post of Assistant Director Fire and Emergency Service.
Therefore, it is requested to kindly issue appropriate orders to recast the SRO-286 dated 12-07-2017 by incorporating the height limit for Ladakh candidates that is 5.2 inches as per with the relaxation norms for Ladakhis.
