JAMMU, May 20: , in a meeting here today, expressed concern over the deteriorating coAll Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA)ndition of tourism stakeholders in Jammu region and alleged continuous neglect of Jammu in tourism development since 1947.
The Association president, Pawan Gupta said that successive governments have failed to establish Jammu as an independent tourist destination despite its immense tourism potential, rich heritage and religious significance.
“Absence of concrete tourism infrastructure and lack of policy attention have severely damaged the local economy,” he maintained adding: “The extension of railway connectivity first up to Katra and now towards Kashmir has adversely affected the hospitality industry of Jammu city, particularly the budget hotel and lodge sector.”
Gupta emphasized that the Government must take immediate steps to revive tourism in Jammu city and complete all the pending mega tourism projects on priority basis.
He particularly stressed upon the speedy completion of Artificial Lake project, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex and beautification of river Tawi on the pattern of Sabarmati Riverfront.
Gupta also demanded promotion of Jhajjar Kotli picnic spot, Ambaran Buddhist site, Jia Pota Ghat at Akhnoor and Sohni-Mahiwal Lovers’ Point at Hamirpur Sidhar.
Others present in the meeting were Anil Khajuria, Pritam Sharma, Baldev Raj, H.S Manhas, Swarn Singh and Varun Gupta.
