JAMMU, June 12: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today paid a surprise visit to Gujjar & Bakerwal Hostels for Boys and Girls in Jammu city to take stock of facilities in these hostels for the students from tribal communities.
The Advisor visited Gujjar-Bakerwal Boys Hostel, Eidgah Residency Road and Girls Hostel at Shaheedi Chowk.
During his visit, the Advisor reviewed the status of facilities being extended to the students in these hostels, besides interacting with the students and staff.
On the occasion, Advisor Khan was informed that the adequate and necessary mechanism has been put in place to ensure extension of quality facilities to the inmates of these hostels.
The Advisor was informed that the capacity building of boys hostel is 125 students and girls hostel is 150 besides a gym has been established in Boys hostel for the physical fitness of the students.
The hostels’ administration brought into the notice of the Advisor about the improvement in the infrastructure of the hostels including renovation of dining room, kitchens etc besides expansion of facilities like computer labs.
He also enquired about the working and other issues being faced by hostels administration.
The Advisor directed the concerned to ensure that the inmates of these hostels are provided with all necessary amenities so that they do not face any inconvenience.
He pointed out that Government of India has already initiated several measures for ensuring that the students belonging to tribal communities are provided with assistance under several flagship programmes and schemes.
While directing the officers to project the demands for budgetary support to these institutions, the Advisor said that Government would ensure that these hostels and institutions are provided with quality infrastructure and amenities for the students and inmates residing in these hostels.
