Advisor Khan inaugurates POSHAN Maah, calls for unified efforts to fight malnutrition

JAMMU, Sept 9: Advisor to Governor, Farooq Khan today called for making unified efforts to fight against the menace of malnutrition for a healthy and a prosperous nation.
The Advisor stated this while chairing an inaugural event of POSHAN Maah-2019 as part of Jan Andolan under POSHAN Abhiyaan held at Convention Centre.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma was the guest of honor on the occasion.
The event marked the beginning of activities to carry forward the Prime Minister’s outreach programme of POSHAN Abhiyaan in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir during the month of September. Click here to watch video
Director General, Social Welfare Department, Rehana Batul, State Project Director (SPMU) POSHAN Abhiyaan, Shabnam Shah Kamili, Joint Director ICDS, J&K, Devinder Singh Katoch, Deputy Director, ICDS, Jammu, Atul Kumar Gupta, District Programme Officers (ICDS), representatives of Rural Development Department and Panchyati Raj, CDPOs of Jammu Division and other senior officers of the convergent departments were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor stressed upon the utmost need for proper implementation of POSHAN Abhiyaan in Jammu and Kashmir and insisted that the problem of malnutrition should be tackled at war footing.
Underlining the objective of the initiative, the Advisor said that the POSHAN Maah is aiming to attain malnutrition free India and emphasized on the need to focus on paradigm shift in the mindset of the people to move from Food-Security to Nutrition Security. “All health related facilities should be provided at school level to combat malnutrition at its very beginning”, he maintained.
On the occasion, the Advisor felicitated the State Project Director, POSHAN Abhiyaan for conducting such programs for creating awareness on the scheme among masses at large.
During her welcome address, State Project Director, POSHAN Abhiyaan , Shabnam Shah Kamili highlighted the objective of the initiative and the role of ICDS with special reference to fighting the menace of Anaemia, Diarrhoea, Management of Severely Acute Malnutrition(SAM). She also spoke at length on Immunization, provision of safe drinking water in Anganwadi Centers and Pre- school Educational aspects related with these problems.
Deputy Director, ICDS, Jammu, Atul Kumar Gupta gave a Power Point Presentation on importance of Poshan (Nutrition) in day-to-day life in general and ICDS in particular.
Medical Officer, State Mission Directorate ICDS J&K, Dr. Bushra Yousaf, presented medical perspective on POSHAN ABHIYAAN and CDPO Migrant; Anjum Ganie gave a detailed report on the aspects of Healthy-Nutrition Chart along with the calendar of activities under Poshan Maah to be carried out in Jammu and Kashmir during the month of September.
Joint Director ICDS, J&K, Devinder Singh Katoch, while addressing the concluding session, advocated collective efforts by all stakeholders in the fight against Malnutrition in Jammu and Kashmir.
Principal, MLTC Jammu, Neha Gupta conducted the proceedings for the event.
