UDHAMPUR, Nov 24: Udhampur Police today arrested two drug peddlers and seized around 39 kg poppy straw, which was being smuggled from Kashmir in a truck.
Police party led by SHO Udhampur Deepak Jasrotia, intercepted the truck number PB02VV 8899, which was loaded with fruit boxes near Jakheni. Noticing some unwarranted behaviour of the driver, the SHO got the whole truck unloaded and subjected it to thorough search during which poppy straw weighing 38 kg 750 gms was recovered. This poppy straw, concealed in four fruit boxes, was seized on the spot besides arrest of both the smugglers, identified as Sher Partap Singh of Bela, Batala Gurdasspur Punjab and Sant Ram of Amritsar.
Police also seized the truck and registered a case in this connection under NDPS Act.
