This has reference to the high percentage of voting recorded in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections conducted throughout the country a couple of days ago. The high turn out implies that people have realized the importance of vote and how it can help them achieve their objectives. Besides, it means that people believe in democratic process and their participation will only strengthen it further.
The efforts made by the Election Commission of India to lure more and more people to polling booths are laudable. If people came to vote in large members, it is because EC made people realize the importance of right to vote. There was a time when people had stopped visiting poll booths due to a number of reasons. The main reason being violence. Booth capturing had been a permanent feature, followed by intimidation of genuine voters. The urbanites usually showed lack of interest in this exercise. They would rather spend it as a holiday with their nears and dears. The things have changed now for the better.
