This has reference to the news item ‘Toxic chemicals, pesticides cause of brain cancer’ DE April 14.
The point raised by former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam with regard to spraying of toxic chemicals and pesticides in orchards of Kashmir needs to be taken seriously by the experts and the Horticulture Department as it involves the safety of people.
The people in the State are already victims of food adulteration. It is affecting their health terribly. This problem has been highlighted through print and electronic media, but so far no action has been taken with regard to it.
The fruit industry in the State is facing stiff competition from other States like Himachal Pradesh. In case the process of spraying toxic substances is not stopped forthwith, it will spell doom to the whole fruit industry.
The Government should find alternative methods which are quite safe to save the industry from doom.
