JAMMU, Dec 19: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh inaugurated the week-long Buddhist community’s Losar festival here today.
The celebration began with unfurling the sacred Buddhist prayer flag “Tarchen” at Chowkhang Vihara here in presence of LBA President Tsewang Thinles, Hill Council Chairman Dr Sonam Dawa, Executive Councilors, Councilors, Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa, SSP Sargun Shukla, District Officers, LBA Youth Vice President Konchok Stak, LBA Women President Rinchen Angmo and large number of people.

Dr Singh while conveying his Losar greetings to the gathering said that India is multi-cultured nation and Ladakh is crown of nation. He assured that State and Central Government will leave no stone unturned to fulfill the demands of Ladakhis and proposal submitted for Chowkhang Vihara construction will be taken with Union Ministry of Culture. He also informed that he will meet Prime Minister and will discuss various issued of Ladakh in detail. He also assured to discuss the filling up of vacant posts of Bhoti teacher with Education Minister of J&K.
Dr Sonam Dawa while conveying his Losar greeting to the people on the occasion said that present Government is doing its best for the development of region and inauguration of three bridges on Indus River within two days times is the historic development, which took place in Ladakh.
LBA President Tsewang Thinles said that there are few vested interested people who are trying to mislead the society by spreading false rumors about Buddhist community. On behalf of Buddhist community, he assured that Buddhist community will do their best to maintain communal harmony in the region.
He also appealed to the Dy CM to help the community in getting the project of Chowkhang Vihara to be constructed under ‘Buddhist Circuit Development Project’ schemes sanctioned from the State Tourism Minister. He informed that DPR has already been submitted in 2016.
