Postal employees stage protest demonstration

SAMBA, Oct 20: Postal employees working on the consolidated wages of just Rs 2500 per month in the rural areas, staged protest demonstration at district headquarters here today.
`Grameen’ Postal workers from various parts of Samba and some parts of Kathua assembled at district Postal office here in the morning under the banner of All India Extra Departmental Employees Union and held demonstration. They are indefinite strike from October 16. In tehsil Hiranagar of district Kathua also similar protest was held two days back.
They pointed out that `Grameen Dak Sevaks’ are getting a meager sum of Rs 2500 per month for the last more than decade. They condemned the authorities for discriminatory attitude with these consolidated workers. They demanded enhancement of their wages and treatment / benefits at par with the other regular employees.
Divisional secretary M L Sharma has appealed the permanent staff of the department to extend support to these temporary workers for their genuine and justified cause. He pointed out that many posts of Postal officials were lying vacant in the rural areas and the same be filled up at the earliest. Reports of similar protest have also received from other areas of the region.
