PK accuses Geelani of creating land row type situation

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 20: Expressing its serious concern and disgust over the statement of Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, threatening agitation against construction of road up to the holy cave of Amarnath, Panun Kashmir (PK) termed the outbursts of secessionist leader both as ludicrous and vicious in nature.
The opposition to the move providing facilities to the Amarnath pilgrims smacks of a clear communal and sectarian mindset, PK president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo and its national spokesperson Verinder Raina told reporters here today.
The Amarnath pilgrims have been suffering unusually high causalities due to lack of appropriate facilities enroute, said Mr Chrungoo. The objections relating to environment degradation etc were never raised in cases of Mugal road and Sinthan road where thousands of trees had to be cut, he added.
He said in the case of Amarnath shrine objections are being raised hurting the sentiments of Hindu society including the indigenous Pandits of Kashmir. The statement of Geelani has potential to provoke and communalize the people of Kashmir and create an atmosphere of land row agitation days, he added.
Mr Chrungoo said under these circumstances, the reported move of secessionist leaders to visit Pakistan and the Government’s acquiescence to the same is fraught with dangerous consequences. The Government needs to clarify its policy on the subject keeping in view the importance of the matter, he added.
Maintaining that relief and economic rehabilitation of displaced people is the primary responsibility of the Government, Virender Raina alleged that the State Government is totally non- serious towards the issue.
He alleged that the relief holders have been driven to destitution due to the callous attitude of the Government regarding enhancement of the relief. The decision to enhance the relief having already been taken by the State Cabinet is again put at the mercy of bureaucratic rigmarole before the Central Government, he added.
