Several drug peddlers arrested across Jammu

JAMMU, May 1: Security forces have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing anti-narcotics operations, leading to multiple arrests and recovery of contraband substances across the Jammu region.
In Samba district, police under the supervision of SSP Anuj Kumar arrested two alleged drug peddlers in the jurisdiction of Police Station Vijaypur. A team intercepted an electric auto (JK08P-6178) near Shiv Nagar Road during routine patrolling. Upon checking, approximately 10 grams of heroin-like substance, commonly known as “chitta,” was recovered from the driver and co-passenger.
The accused have been identified as Azar-ul-Din, a resident of Kathua, and Noor Alam, originally from Myanmar and currently residing in Bathindi, Jammu. The contraband along with the vehicle has been seized. A case (FIR No. 74/2026) under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, police achieved success during routine patrolling in the Salani area. A suspect identified as Tanzil-ul-Rehman of Thanamandi was intercepted and found in possession of 1.69 grams of heroin-like substance. He was taken into custody and a case (FIR No. 213/2026) under the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Rajouri.
In another operation, Banihal Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler during a naka at Railway Chowk. The accused, identified as Tawheed Ahmed Khan of Srinagar, was found carrying approximately 4.54 grams of heroin-like substance. A case (FIR No. 70/2026) under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered.
Additionally, Samba Police arrested another peddler in the Bari Brahmana area and recovered around 513 grams of ganja-like substance.
The accused, identified as Ravinder Ram, a resident of Bihar currently living near Railway Station Bari Brahmana, has been taken into custody. A case (FIR No. 112/2026) under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug menace from the region and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking.
