SRINAGAR, May 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Head Constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant in Srinagar.
The accused has been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Rather, posted in District Srinagar.
According to an ACB official, the complainant alleged that the accused demanded money for removing his name from the list of accused in a case registered at Police Station Soura.
After receiving the complaint, he said the ACB conducted a discrete verification through a designated officer, which found that the accused had initially demanded Rs 50,000 but later agreed to accept Rs 15,000.

The ACB official said following verification, a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar.
During investigation, a trap team was formed and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe near District Police Lines Srinagar, he said.
The amount included Rs 5,000 in cash and Rs 10,000 through cheque, he said, adding that the bribe money was recovered on the spot and further investigation is in progress.
