Locals protest, block bridge after cops beat auto driver

KATHUA, May 1: The residents of Billawar today blocked the Naaz Bridge for two hours during a protest against cops after an auto driver was allegedly left seriously injured by the men in Khakhi.
The victim, Kamal Kishore, resident of Mudai Billawar, while driving his auto reached Baggan with two passengers onboard and he was stopped by two cops who beat him to pulp.
The driver was allegedly left in serious condition with fractured leg.
Locals intervened and rescued the driver from cops and shifted him to Billawar Hospital in serious condition from where he was referred to GMC Kathua.
As no FIR was registered in the case, locals started protest against cops and blocked Naaz Bridge.
The protesters raised slogans against Police and demanded punishment to the erring cops.
Later on Dy.SP Billawar, Neeraj Manhas and SHO Zahir Mustaq reached the spot and pacified the angry mob.
The protesters were demanding medical treatment of the victim, suspension of erring cops and registration of FIR against them.
Dy.SP Billawar assured the protesters to fulfil their demands.
He also assured fair enquiry into the matter after which the protesters dispersed.
