9 cops, 10 pregnant women among 125 test +ve in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 30 : In one of the major spikes in COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir, 125 people including 10 pregnant women and nine cops tested positive for Coronavirus today with 32 among them travellers, taking the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 2341.
Majority of these people were in quarantine facilities and they include 19 from Anantnag, four from Kulgam, 26 from Srinagar, 16 from Shopian, three from Kupwara, 40 from Baramulla, one from Bandipora, five from Pulwama, 10 from Budgam and one from Ganderbal.
Among the fresh cases in Valley, 48 were confirmed at diagnostic laboratories at CD hospital, 19 at SKIMS Soura, and 10 at SKIMS hospital Bemina.
Nodal officer for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan, told Excelsior that out of 485 samples processed at Microbiology Lab at CD hospital, 48 tested positive including 40 from Baramulla, seven from Anantnag and one from Srinagar.
Among the cases, 10 are pregnant women-five from Anantnag including 34-year-old from Ashmuqam, 32-year-old from Laripora Pahalgam, 25-year-old, 28-year-old and 30-year-old from Siligam, four from Baramulla including 27-year-old from Duroo, 75-year-old from Watergam, 25-year-old from Rafiabad, 28-year-old from Sopore and 24-year-old from Srinagar.
The other cases are one from Batpora Hazratbal Srinagar, eight from Khawajabagh Baramulla, nine from Watergam, seven from Gantamulla Payeen, one from Dangiwacha, one from Reshipora, one from Safapora Rafiabad, one from DPL Baramulla, one from Marazgund, one from Tangmarg, one from Yemberzalwari, Sopore and one from Tulhard in Anantnag and one from Ashmuqam.
Principal SKIMS Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, said that out 500 samples processed at the hospital’s diagnostic laboratory today, 10 tested positive. All of them are from Budgam-eight cops from Police Station Magam, aged 28, 31, 31, 32 36, 38, 40, 45 years and two from Soibugh village, both women aged 35 and 37 years.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan told Excelsior that 1071 samples were processed at the viral diagnostic lab today and 19 tested positive including 12 from Srinagar, four from Kulgam, two from Kupwara and one from Baramulla.
Seven samples which tested positive were received from Srinagar Airport and include 30-year-old man from Hajibagh Buchpora, 77-year-old woman from Peerbagh Hyderpora, 13-year-old boy from Nowshera, and two residents-71-year-old woman and 76-year-old man from New Zaina Kadal, all having history of travel to Riyadh while two others, a man from Naribal Bota Kadal Srinagar and 70-year-old man from Chechlora Magam in Baramulla, have travel history to New Delhi.
Twelve other cases include six samples received from CMO Srinagar and all from Kathidarwaza and include 62 and 33 years old man, four women aged 21, 26, 28 and 52 years with travel history to New Delhi, four from Kulgam including 34-year-old man and 3 women, two of them aged 19 and 42 years and two men from Kupwara aged 45 and 60 years with travel history to Ambala.
With fresh cases, Anantnag has surpassed 300- mark the number of COVID-19 cases and stands at 314 followed by 277 in Kulgam, 272 in Srinagar, 258 in Kupwara, 217 in Baramulla, 146 in Bandipora, 168 in Shopian, 109 in Budgam, 70 in Pulwama and 32 in Ganderbal.
And 17 more COVID-19 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir.
So far 165225 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 36538 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 56 in Hospital Quarantine, 1405 in hospital isolation and 43514 home surveillance. Besides, 83684 persons have completed their surveillance period.
