Farmers’ deputation calls on DC

JAMMU, May 30: A deputation of farmers of village Forelain Morha Chang Pelh Dhorsi, tehsil Kathua met Deputy Commissioner Kathua, OP Bhagat and apprised him of illegal mining being done by miscreants in irrigated and fertile agricultural land.
The deputation led by Rajinder Thakur, Sarpanch Foralain West B Panchayat informed the DC that large scale illegal mining is going on in village Forelain Morha Chang Pelh Dhorsi near Ujh Dam. The DC were told that the miscreants are digging and extracting cultivable soil and selling to brick kilns disrupting supply of irrigation water to their land.
“This illegal activity has endangered their more than hundred years old irrigation channel (cool) which irrigates a large stretch of agricultural land,” they apprised the DC on whose directions, Tehsildar Kathua along with Naib Tehsildar visited the spot but the miscreants managed to flee with their tippers leaving behind 1 JCB.
The poor farmer appealed the authorities concerned to punish the miscreants and repair the damage made to their age old irrigation channel (cool) by repairing it at an earliest otherwise they would not be able to grow their paddy crop on their land by which more than 30 families would face starvation.
