GMC Srinagar Prof among 376 test +ve

Srinagar, Aug 12: Kashmir reported eight COVID-19 deaths today taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 500 while an Associate Professor at Government Medical College Srinagar and leading influenza expert was among 376 people who tested positive in the Valley taking the J&K tally past 26000 mark.
The fresh deaths include three from Srinagar, two from Kupwara and one each from Baramulla, Pulwama and Ganderbal.
The Srinagar deaths include a 70-year-old man from Lal Bazar who was admitted to SKIMS Soura on July 24 and died today.
The other two include a 60-year-old man from Nawabazar, admitted with Pneumonia to the hospital on August 4, and a 68-year-old-man from Rainawari who was admitted to SMHS hospital on August 6. The man from Rainawari was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bilateral Pneumonia.
An 80-year-old woman from Waspora Murran tested positive for COVID-19 today. She had underlying renal failure and died on way to district hospital Pulwama.
A 60-year-old man from Ganderbal died of COVID-19 at SKIMS Soura today.
A 65-year-old COPD patient from Baktoor village of Gurez died on the way to the hospital today.
A 47-year-old man from Langate who had been admitted to SMHS hospital with bilateral pneumonia died today. A 70-year-old man from Kralgund Handwara also died today.
With these deaths, 500 people have died in Jammu and Kashmir with 463 from the Valley and 37 from Jammu division.
Srinagar district with 160 deaths topped the list followed by Baramulla 85, Budgam 36, Anantnag 35, Kulgam 31, Pulwama 33, Kupwara 30, Shopian 24, Bandipora 19 and Ganderbal 10.
An Associate Professor at Government Medical College Srinagar and leading influenza expert was among 376 people who tested positive in Kashmir taking the J&K tally beyond 26000 mark.
Among those who tested positive 88 were from Srinagar, Baramulla 26, Pulwama 52, Kulgam 17, Shopian 1, Anantnag 53, Budgam 29, Kupwara 42, Bandipora 29 and Ganderbal 39.
The doctor who tested positive is Professor at GMC Srinagar and was on duty at COVID-19 ward in SMHS hospital where he got infected.
“I was on duty in the COVID-19 ward of SMHS for the past few days. I think I have transmitted the virus there only. Yesterday, I developed pain, had fever and viral load related symptoms. I got myself tested and it is positive,” he told Excelsior.
“I am in home isolation and need prayers of my dear ones including friends,” he said.
An official said that at Chest Diseases Hospital Virology Laboratory, 789 samples were processed and 87 tested positive.
The official said that at SKIMS Soura hospital Virology laboratory, 600 samples were processed and 76 tested positive for COVID-19. He added that 1640 samples received from Airport were also processed at the lab and 33 tested positive.
The official said that 551 samples were processed at SKIMS Medical College Laboratory and 48 tested positive.
In Kashmir, Srinagar topped the list with 6438 cases followed by Baramulla with 2257, Pulwama 1949, Kulgam 1659, Budgam 1638, Shopian 1537, Anantnag 1665, Kupwara 1348, Bandipora 1197and Ganderbal 773.
