Funding module busted, 3 arrested

Jammu, Aug 12: A militant was killed and a soldier martyred during an encounter at Kamrazipora area of Pulwama district while two militants managed to escape and in two separate incidents one militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was arrested and an LeT militancy funding module was busted in Bandipora district.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that the operation was launched after a specific input regarding presence of militants in the orchards of village Kamrazipora area of Pulwama.

He said that a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 53RR of Army and 183 Battalion of CRPF in the area.
Kumar said that during the search operation militants were given the opportunity to surrender. However, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.
He said that one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Azaad Lalhari resident of Pulwama.
Two Army jawans also received bullet injuries and were shifted to hospital for treatment. However, one of the injured Army jawan succumbed to his injuries.
An official said that two associates of Lalhari escaped under the cover of darkness, firing and thick foliage.
As per police records, Azaad was affiliated with proscribed Hizbul Mujahideen. “Azaad had a history of terror crime records and was involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area. Several terror crime cases were registered against him including Case FIR No. 112/2020 pertaining to the killing of Head Constable Anoop Singh at Prichoo Pulwama, besides he was also involved in other terror crime cases including FIR No.’s 274/2014, 121/2015, 21/2017, 48/2017, 36/2020 of district Pulwama and case FIR No. 263/2017 of district Budgam”, police records suggest.
Police said that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crimes”, police added.
“Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead body of the killed terrorist has been sent to Baramulla for his burial & last rites after completion of medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the killed terrorist were allowed to participate in the last rites at Baramulla”, police added.
“In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been initiated”, police added.
Police in Bandipora today busted a militancy funding module by arresting three persons and recovered cash and seized a bank account.
Police said that based on a credible input they busted a militancy funding module of Lashkar-e-Toiba and arrested three persons. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Chittibandy Aragam, Mohmad Junaid Wani, resident of Nageen Bagh Sopore and Raj Mohammad Khan, resident of Lolab Kupwara.
“Incriminating materials including cash worth Rs. 4 lakhs have been recovered from their possession and Rs one lakh in bank accounts have also been seized. As per investigations, the trio were in touch with their handlers in PoK and had received Rs 14 lakhs out of which Rs 9 lakhs have been distributed by them for financing terror activities in Bandipora and Kupwara districts. The module was activated for carrying out militant activities in district Bandipora and Kupwara”, police said.
A case (FIR No. 29/2020 under relevant Sections of law) has been registered in Police Station Aragam and further investigation into the matter is going on.
And police along with security forces arrested one militant of LeT from Hajin area of Bandipora and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
Police said that based on credible information, Handwara Police along with Bandipora Police, 13RR, 32RR and 92Bn CRPF have arrested one active militant identified as Aquib Ahmad Rather alias Jana son of Ghulam Mohd Rather resident of Sahipora, Handwara from Hajin area of Bandipora.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. As per police records he was linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT. Case FIR No. 77/2020 under relevant Sections of law stands registered in Police Station Kralgund and further investigation has been initiated”, police said.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that militants fired at a Quick Reaction Team of Army at Trumgund Hygam crossing on National Highway in which one soldier was injured. He said that operation in the area was launched against the militants responsible for the attack.
