5th Annual Inter-Collegiate (Northern Zone) declamation contest held

JAMMU, Nov 21: The preliminary round of 5th Annual Inter-Collegiate (Northern Zone) declamation contest on the topic: “Eradicating Corruption and Maladministration from Governance” for Silver Rolling Trophy instituted by N N Vohra Governor, was organized by Department of Higher Education at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
At the outset a seven days’ AIDS Awareness Week alongwith charter of activities was inaugurated by the chief guest by releasing the ballons in the air. The programme commenced with lighting of the traditional lamp and by invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesha followed by cultural programme.
Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad (IAS), Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department was the chief guest, Prof T A Kawoos Director Colleges was the guest of honour and Narender Khajuria (IAS), Additional Secretary from Governor’s Secretariat was the Observer for the contest. Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College welcomed the chief guest, guest of honour, observer, dignitaries, jury members and principals of the various Degree Colleges.
Prof T A Kawoos presented the key note address and traced the history of declamation contest right from its conception in 2010 till date.
Secretary, Higher Education Department, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad (IAS) released the Academic calendar 2014-2015 and declared the contest open.
S Daleep Singh (IAS), former Commissioner/Secretary, Transport, Prof Rita Munshi, former Principal and Prof Sneh Samyal, Professor of Economics and educationist were the jury members who evaluated the performance of the participants.
The six students were selected for the final round of Northern Zone Inter-State Declamation Contest which will be held on 12th of December, 2014. The first prize was clinched by Sanak Sharief Khan of GCW, Gandhi Nagar 2nd prize was won by Waheed Anjum, Government MAM College, Jammu and the 3rd prize went in favour of Aflaq Ahmed, GDC Rajouri.
Besides this the three consolation prizes were given to the students. Dhruvika Pandita of GCET, Shewtangi Dutta of GGM Science College and Bhawana Devi of GDC Basohli were given 1st, 2nd and 3rd consolation prizes respectively.
