5 guests from PoK arrive, 8 Kashmiris cross over to other side of LoC

SRINAGAR: Despite tense situation on the borders due to infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control (LoC), five fresh guests from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) arrived here while eight Kashmiris crossed over to the other side in the weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.

As many as 15 returnees also crossed sides at the Kaman Post, in Uri sector, official sources said on Monday afternoon. They said five residents of PoK arrived at Kaman Post, after crossing the Aman Setu, peace bridge, on foot to meet their relatives, separated in 1947 due to partition. They included a woman.

Meanwhile, seven Kashmiris, including a woman, who had gone to PoK in previous buses, also returned after completing their stay there. The number of guests coming here from PoK goes down during winter months while it increases during summer when weather is pleasant in Kashmir. On the contrary, the number of people going to PoK in the peace bus goes down in summer and increases in winter.

They said eight Kashmiris, including three women, crossed over to the other side of LoC in the weekly bus. As many as eight PoK residents, including four women and a child, who had arrived in previous buses to meet their relatives, returned to their homes after completing their stay here, they added.
