48 hours MGNREGA employees’ strike from July 9

JAMMU, July 7: Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Employees Association of Jammu province will go for 48 hours strike from July 9 in support of their demand of job policy.
Association President Sandeep Kalotra here today told reporters that thousands of highly qualified youth are working under MGNREGA National Flagship Scheme since the year 2007 in Rural Development Department (RDD).
“RDD has failed to frame a job policy for these employees and these employees have not been regularized till date,” he said.
Other Association office bearers from Jammu province viz., Tariq Zara, General Secretary and Satwant Singh and Sajad Butt, core member said, “It is very painful to mention here that the MGNREGA staffs is highly qualified but still working on wages even less than those of a skilled labour while employees working under other centrally sponsored schemes like SSA, NRHM etc are getting handsome salaries with yearly increments.”
Kalotra further said that they had raised their demands many times before the minister and concerned authorities but nothing fruitful emerged.
He urged the Governor N.N Vohra to intervene and do something for MGNREGA employees.
