Militant arrested in Bijbehara

SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Four militants were killed in two separate gun battles in Kashmir today while huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession.
Three militants were killed in a nocturnal gun battle that broke out between militants and security forces in Yarwan area of Keller in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
Security forces cordoned off Yawran area of Keller in Shopian district after credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area. As the searches were going on, the troops were fired upon by the militants and the security forces retaliated leading to a gunfight.
Three militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Sajad Khanday, Aqib Ahmad Dar and Basharat Ahmad Mir, all residents of Pulwama. They belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Police said that Aqib had a long history of militancy and was involved in several militancy related incidents and cases were registered against him. He was involved in conspiring and executing many attacks in the area.

Police said Sajad and Basharat were involved in many attacks and several crime cases were also registered against them.
“Incriminating materials including three AK rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror cases”, police said.
One militant was killed in a gun battle that broke out between security forces and militants today in Yaroo village of Langate, Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police said that based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Yaroo area of Langate in Handwara, a cordon and search operation was launched by police and security forces in the area.
As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militants and the fire was retaliated by troops leading to a gun fight. In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Danish Ahmad Dar resident of Sopore.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter. Incriminating materials including rifle and grenades were recovered from the site of encounter.
“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any”, police said.
Police today said that they arrested a militant from Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. He has been identified as Rameez Ahmad Dar and police said that he was arrested after the efforts made by police, Army and CRPF.
He was arrested along with arms and ammunition. He was active since Jan 2014 and was involved in many militancy cases. Dar was earlier affiliated with Hizbul-Mujahideen but he has recently joined the Al-Badr Mujahideen, a militant outfit.
In a major offensive launched against militants in Kashmir, this year 56 militants were killed so far by the security forces. Eighty one security force personnel and 20 civilians were also killed so far this year.
