4-day Panchayat Yatra, PRI review conference begins

REASI, Sept 29: District administration Reasi launched 4-day Panchayat yatra to various blocks and review conference chaired by District Development Commissioner at Arnas, Mahore, Pouni and Reasi blocks separately.
Initiative was taken to review the status of devolution of powers to Panchayats by 14 line departments, obtain feedback from field functionaries as well as PRIs and create awareness about roles and responsibilities in various sectors.
District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary accompanied by Addl DDC Bikram Singh Jamwal, ACD Joginder Singh, SDM Mahore Ashwani Khajuria, DFO Rafi Ahmed Khan, DPO Rohit and Tehsildars held day long deliberations with 30 Panchayats at Dharmari and 58 Panchayats in Mahore in two days.
Block level officers of 14 line departments gave a point wise performance report about implementation of Government order regarding devolution of powers and strengthening panchayats. This was followed by review of performance of individual Sarpanch on various fronts especially management of schools and anganwadi centres and construction of Panchayat Ghars.
At Mahore, MLA Gulabgarh Abdul Ghani Malik apprised the DDC about developmental issues in Panchayats and sought early redressal of grievances related to payment of compensation for damages done due to roads of PMGSY and land compensation for BRO road.
The DDC impressed upon the Sarpanchs to take lead in management of community assets and be torch bearers for change by way of playing vital role in education and social welfare sectors. He directed the BDOs to prepare a monthly report card of Sarpanchs and rank them as per their performance in sectors like Health, Education, PHE, Irrigation, Rural Development and also protection of land belonging to Forest and Revenue department. Sarpanchs achieving first three positions in each block will be felicitated by the DDC and hosted at district headquarters.
Achievement of Sarpanchs will be reviewed against such targets which will include holding social audit under MGNREGA, inspection of works, issue of Job Cards, holding meetings of Village Health and Sanitation Committees, inspection of Anaganwadi Centres and Schools, construction works and other participatory developmental activities.
