Drive conducted on 30 kanals land along bypass

JAMMU, Feb 20: Popular Mad Glad and Orange restaurants were among 32 commercial establishments, which prime facie appears to have been constructed on State land from Narwal to Sidhra Bypass road were sealed by the District Administration today.
Out of 32 establishments, the list of which is in possession of EXCELSIOR, 22 were on State or Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land.

The operation to seal the establishments was led by Tehsildar Jammu. The assistance was also sought from Bagh-e-Bahu Police Station and Sidhra Police Post.
However, no resistance or untoward incident was reported during the drive to seal these establishments.
Official sources said that the District Administration Jammu has passed directions regarding closure of all restaurants functional on State land along the bypass road that runs from Narwal-Sidhra connecting with Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
They said that the owners have been directed to produce documents and record of land, adding, “those found illegally raised without permission and required formalities, have to face the music”.
Meanwhile, police sources said that these points were reportedly becoming favourite destinations for youngsters and they remain open till late evenings.
These fancy and well designed food points have emerged as hub to freak out for youth especially the college goers, police sources added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sushma Chauhan said, “Around 29 structures, which prima facie appear to have been constructed on State land from Narwal to Sidhra were closed down by the administration.
“It is clarified that other commercial establishments on same road, which are not currently believed to be on State land are operating normally. Further proceedings will be initiated by Revenue officials immediately and in case the owners have any legal and valid claim, that shall be duly considered before any measure is taken”, she added.
As per data available with the Excelsior, the drive to seal these establishments was conducted on around 30 kanals of land.
