Rash, negligent driving unabated on hilly roads

JAMMU, July 20: In another tragic accident within a week, four pilgrims including three members of a family were killed and two others injured when the Tata Sumo they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into gorge near Bijnoai area of Senabati in tehsil Ukhral, district Ramban, this afternoon.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK14B-3832 was on its way to Ukhral from Sarvadhar, when the driver lost control over the vehicle as a result it plunged into gorge near Bijnoai area, resulting into serious injuries to all the 6 pilgrims, who were returning home after paying obeisance in a temple at Sarvadhar. Rash and negligent driving by the driver was the reason behind the mishap.

After getting information, police team along with locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to PHC Ukhral, where doctors declared a couple as brought dead. Four injured persons were referred to District Hospital Ramban, where doctors declared two more injured persons as brought dead, thereby raising the toll to 4.
Two injured persons including a minor girl were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Surjeet Singh, son of Sant Ram, his wife Koshalya Devi, daughter Neelam Devi, all residents of Kote Pogal and Anu Devi, daughter of Ashok Singh of Kote Ukhral.
The injured have been identified as Priya Devi (13), daughter of Ashok Singh of Kote Pogal and Pawan Singh (driver), son of Surjeet Singh of Pingloo, Hochak.
A case under FIR Number 65/19 under Section 279 and 337 RPC has been registered at Ramsoo Police Station and investigation started.
It is pertinent to mention here that on July 14 this year, all 8 persons traveling in a Tata Sumo were killed when it had rolled down into a gorge in Tehsil Ukhral of district Ramban. The reason behind the accident was rash and negligent driving and in today’s mishap, the reason of the accident is same.
Despite repeated cases of accidents in tehsil Ukhral, the administration and the concerned departments have failed to check the rash and negligent driving by the drivers.
The rash and negligent driving by the drivers on the hilly roads goes unabated, which are claiming the lives of the innocent people.
