Srinagar, Dec 2: Security forces today arrested three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) from Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and recovered two grenades from their possession.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that Baramulla Police, Army’s 29 RR and 2nd Bn SSB while on patrolling in the area established a naka at Wussan Pattan this morning.
He said that three persons were spotted moving towards the naka party in a suspicious manner. On spotting the Naka, they ran away through adjacent agriculture fields but were apprehended by the security forces.
They have been identified as Asif Ahmad Reshi son of Nissar Ahmad Reshi, Mehrajuddin Dar son of Sonaullah Dar and Faisal Habib Lone son of Habibullah Lone, all residents of Gund Jehangir area of Hajin in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
He said that upon sustained interrogation and technical leads the three were found to be militant associates of LeT/TRF involved in Palhalan grenade attack that took place on November 17, regarding which case FIR 327/2021 of PS Pattan under relevant sections of law was registered.
“Upon their disclosure two grenades were recovered. Investigation has further revealed that the accused persons were given instructions from across the border and aim behind the attacks was to create an atmosphere of fear & chaos,” said a police spokesman.
In the meantime, security forces today launched a search operation in North Kashmir’s Bandipora town.
Army’s 14 RR, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched the search operation after inputs about the presence of militants in the main town.
The operation later concluded peacefully in the evening after no contact was established.
The troops surrounded the entire Gulshan-Chowk while entire market area was closed following operation.
