3-day INSPIRE commences at SMVD Gurukul

KATRA, Oct 11: A three-day Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Fellowship Review Meeting Programme, organised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in collaboration with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, took off at the Spiritual Growth Centre at Katra today. A galaxy of scientists and research scholars from the premier institutions of various Northern parts of the country are participating in this scientific event.
The programme commenced with inaugural lecture of Dr. A. S. Ahluwalia, Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Chairman of the INSPIRE Fellowship Review meeting, who was chief guest at the inaugural function; Vivek Verma, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
In his address, Dr. Ahluwalia dwelt on the aims and objectives of the INSPIRE Fellowship programme. He added that INSPIRE is a flagship programme of the Government of India under which fellowship and other support is provided to the outstanding science students for pursuing research in various disciplines of science.
Prof. Vishwamurti Shastri, Member Governing Council for the Gurukul, spoke extensively about science and religion and congratulated the organisers for conducting the INSPIRE programme in collaboration with the Gurukul.
Dr. Arvind Karwani, Dy. Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board and Administrator of the Gurukul, gave details of the aims and objectives of establishment of the Gurukul besides its history and growth as a premier institution.
Dr. Ahluwalia; Dr. Rajesh Tandon, Professor, Department of Botany, University of Delhi; Dr. Ranbir Singh Rana, Principal Scientist, Centre for Geo-informatics Research and Training, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur; Dr. S. Uma, Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi; Dr. Rajesh Chahota, Professor, DGCN College of Veterinay and Animal Sciences, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur; Dr. Umesh Kumar Sharma and other scientists from the Government of India participating in the INSPIRE programme were felicitated on the occasion.
Dr. Dhananjay Mishra, Principal; and Dr. Devendra Rijal, vice principal of the Gurukul gave welcome address and vote of thanks, respectively.
Among those present on the occasion were Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB; Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal, SMVD College of Nursing, Kakryal; research scholars, scientists, academicians, senior officers and staff of the Shrine Board, teachers and students of Gurukul, High School Sanjichhat and various educational institutions of Katra.
Later, a science show was also organised for the students by Prof. Kamal Kapoor, Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu and Mineesh Gulati, Chairman, Happy Model Foundation, Udhampur, which was highly appreciated by them.
