ANANTNAG, May 24: The second Sunday of the ongoing Adhikmas/Banumas/Purushottam Mas Mahakumbh 2026 was observed with great religious fervour and devotion at the ancient Shri Martand Tirath in Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where nearly 5,000 devotees gathered to participate in sacred rituals and prayers.
Since the early hours of Sunday, devotees from different parts of Jammu & Kashmir and several other states thronged the holy shrine to take a ritual bath in the sacred spring of Shri Martand Tirath and the revered Chaka Nadi.
Pilgrims also performed Pind Daan and Shradh rituals for the peace and salvation (Moksha) of their departed ancestors.
The shrine complex remained spiritually vibrant throughout the day with Vedic chants, Bhajans and the sound of conch shells echoing across the premises.
Special arrangements for Langar Sewa, lodging and boarding were made by the Shri Martand Tirath Trust for the convenience of visiting devotees.
Volunteers of the Trust, along with the district administration, managed crowd regulation, sanitation and traffic arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the religious gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the Trust Ashok Kumar Sidha and general secretary, T.K. Tickoo said that the Adhikmas Kumbh holds immense religious significance and is observed after every two-and-a-half years.
They expressed gratitude to the district administration Anantnag, KPDCL, PHE Department, Health Department, Municipal Committee, Mattan and police authorities for extending full cooperation during the ongoing religious congregation.
They said that devotees are arriving in large numbers every Sunday and the footfall is expected to increase further in the coming weeks.
The Adhikmas Kumbh 2026, which commenced on May 16, will continue till June 17, with Sundays witnessing particularly heavy rush owing to the performance of Pind Daan rituals.
The Trust has appealed to pilgrims to maintain cleanliness around the ghats and adhere to guidelines issued by the administration.
