SRINAGAR, Mar 21: Ahead of by-polls, police have detained at least 24 persons accused of stone-pelting in multiple raids at Pulwama and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir.
Sources said police raided Murana and Kangan villages of Pulwama district during nocturnal hours and detained at least 21 persons, mostly youths. Police said all the detained persons were involved in stone-pelting. Locals, however, alleged that among the detained persons include relatives of some boys who have gone underground to evade arrest.
Meanwhile, three youths were also detained from Budroo and Chawalgam villages of neighbouring Kulgam district. Sources said the trio was detained over their alleged involvement in stoning recent election rally of ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that was held at Chawalgam in the district.
