UDHAMPUR, July 30: Continuing its drive against drug smuggling, District Police today seized a truck near Main Bazar Kud and recovered 21.300 kgs of poppy straw (bhuki) besides arresting the drug peddler.
The seized contraband was being smuggled from Kashmir to Jammu.
Giving details, Anil Magotra, SSP Udhampur said that Kud Police while conducting routine checking near Main Bazar Kud intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02W/3317. During thorough search of the truck, 21.3 kgs of poppy straw (bhuki) was found concealed in the tool box and recovered.
The accused driver namely Nazarat Ali of Gura Suraj Kathua and his associate smuggler Mumtaz Ali of Mohni Bakhta Rajbagh Kathua were arrested on the spot while the vehicle was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR number 91/2013 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Kud against the said accused persons. Further investigation of the case is going on.
