2 Punjab residents arrested with 1,700 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, Jan 24: Police arrested two Punjab residents along with 1,700 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 193 apple boxes.
As per police sources, on specific information, the sleuths from Special Operation Group (SOG) Jammu led by Inspector Javed Kataria and Police Station Channi Himmat headed by Inspector Parvez Sajjad laid a naka on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB23J-5843.
During checking, the sleuths seized 1,700 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 193 apple boxes and arrested two persons.
The arrested persons were identified as Deedar Singh, son of Payara Singh and Manpreet, son of Kabul Singh, both residents of District Ludhiana Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 16/2020 under Section 8/15/29/60 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Channi Himmat and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons involved in this illegal trade.
The whole operation was closely monitored by SSP SOG Jammu Sandeep Mehta and SSP Jammu Tejinder Singh.
