2 inter-state narco smugglers held with poppy straw

UDHAMPUR, Jan 22: Police today arrested two inter-state narcotic smugglers along with 70 kilograms of poppy straw from Jakheni area, falling under the jurisdiction of Udhampur police station.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Udhampur police station laid a naka at Jakheni and intercepted a car bearing registration number PB65G-7183.
On seeing police party, the driver sped up the vehicle and tried to escape, but the active cops of Udhampur police station chased the vehicle and stopped it at some distance.
During checking, police recovered 70 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two inter-state narcotic smugglers, who have been identified as Jasbir Singh, son of Kuldeep Singh and Baljeet Singh, son of Paras Ram, both residents of Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
A case under FIR number 44/15 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Udhampur and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Udhampur police station Inspector Mahesh Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Gourav Mahajan and SSP Udhampur Suleman Chowdhary.
