JAMMU, Jan 22: Describing tenure of coalition rule as an era of mis-governance and corruption, BJP State general secretary and MLA from Gandhi Nagar Constituency, Kavinder Gupta said that while parties in power were after their vested interests, important decisions taken in Board meetings and State legislature for public welfare were either ignored or implemented half-heartedly.
Addressing public meetings in Govindpura Kullian, Raipur Satwari, Bhour Camp, Gadigarh, Mr Gupta said making the important public institutions like District Development Boards defunct, speaks volumes about the hollowness of the claims of rich work culture made by the coalition.
He said BJP is committed to ensure people’s effective participation, transparency, responsiveness, consensus orientation, equity and inclusiveness, the rule of law, effectiveness and efficiency, accountability, and strategic vision as these are crucially value-laden and constitute the bedrock of democracy.
He further said that civil society can influence policy and project formulation through membership of committees, submission of memoranda directly or through elected representatives, and interactive rule-making in the implementation of policies, projects and schemes affecting citizens, so that the maximum day-to-day interaction between the Government and the citizens takes place and the popular image of governance is formed.
Mr Gupta strongly maintained that efforts to improve the quality of governance will fail if the quality and calibre of the political executive is unsatisfactory, adding that Civil society needs to note the deterioration in the quality, integrity and commitment of the elected representatives and the criminalization of politics.
Ashok Khajuria, Vinay Gupta, Jaideep Sharma, Vikram Randhawa, Baldev Billoria, Pitamber Sharma, Sanjeev Gupta, Ramneek Singh, Vijay Sharma and Subash were prominent among others present on the occasion.
