2 drug peddlers held in Handwara

Srinagar, Jan 25: Police today said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at Wangam crossing on Baramulla-Handwara highway, police said, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL9CJ-2559 with two persons on board who after noticing a police party tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully.
“They have been identified as Mohd Yousuf Bhat son of Abdul Jabar Bhat resident of Rohama Rafiabad and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohi-u-Din Bhat resident of Badan Rafiabad,” police said.
As per police, during the search, officers were able to recover 2Kgs of heroin from their possession. “They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”
Accordingly, police said, a case vide FIR No. 04/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kralgund and investigation has been taken up. During preliminary investigation, it surfaced that the accused drug peddlers are involved in supplying drugs in Baramulla, Sopore and Handwara areas.
