2 die of COVID in J&K, 174 test +ve

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Nov 24: Two persons died of COVID-19 and 174 tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir while 20 new cases were reported in Ladakh even as the district Jammu administration today asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars to enforce restrictions in hotels and banquets where social gatherings are taking place.

One COVID casualty and 25 cases were registered in Jammu division while one fatality and 149 cases were recorded in Kashmir valley.
An 86-year-old woman hailing from Shiv Nagar in Toph Sherkhanian in Jammu died of COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today. She was fully vaccinated.
With this, Jammu region’s Corona toll has reached 2184 and that of Jammu district to 1151.
Among 25 new cases in the region, 11 were reported from Jammu district, five in Rajouri, four Kishtwar, two Doda and one each in Udhampur, Poonch and Reasi districts.
An equal number of persons recovered from the virus leaving number of active positive cases in Jammu region to 247.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate Jammu Anshul Garg today directed the SDMs and Tehsildars to convene meetings with the owners of hotels/banquet halls within their jurisdiction to ensure that COVID Appropriate Behaviour is observed and no event continues beyond 10 pm.
They were also asked to conduct random inspection of the hotels/banquet halls for any violations of COVID behaviour and initiate necessary remedial measures including penalties and sealing of premises for flouting guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 20 new COVID positive cases, all in Leh district.
The UT of Ladakh now has 226 active positive cases including 211 in Leh district and 15 in Kargil district.
Meanwhile, in view of surge in COVID cases, District Magistrate Leh Shrikant Balasaheb Suse today ordered imposition of night curfew in Leh district from 10 pm to 5 am.
He also ordered ceiling of 25 persons or 50 percent of the hall capacity in case of indoor space for the gathering and 50 persons or 50 percent of the capacity of space in case of open areas.
He said marriages attended by up to 50 persons will be permitted while gatherings in last rites will be confined to 25.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 149 fresh cases of COVID-19 and one person who was infected with the virus succumbed in Srinagar.
With fresh death, the death toll in the J&K has gone upto 4,466.
Those who tested positive include 58 from Srinagar, 43 from Baramulla, 18 from Budgam, 11 from Kupwara, 3 from Anantnag, 8 from Bandipora, 7 from Ganderbal, and 1 from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 211,017 including 207,298 recoveries and 2,282 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,684 including 1,437 from Kashmir division
With 135 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 329,731, which is 98.17 percent of the total cases.
