JAMMU, Dec 10: Two policemen were martyred in a militant attack on a police party at Gulshan Chowk in North Kashmir district of Bandipora today.
Militants this evening attacked the escort party of Station House Officer Saddar in Gulshan Chowk in Bandipora in which two policemen were injured.
The injured policemen were shifted to district hospital Bandipora where doctors declared them as brought dead. They have been identified as Muhammad Sultan of Baramulla and Fayaz Ahmed of Kupwara district.

Soon after the attack, the area was cordoned off and a massive manhunt launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
A police spokesman said that at 5:15 pm, militants fired at a police party at Gulshan Chowk, Bandipora after which senior police officers visited the spot.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that militants fired at the police party of Police Station Bandipora near Gulshan Chowk area of Bandipora in which two police personnel SgCt Muhammad Sultan and Ct Fayaz Ahmad received critical gunshot injuries. Both the injured were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. However, both of them succumbed,” the police spokesman said.
He said that police have registered a case in this regard under relevant Sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which led to the incident. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted: “No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous militant attack on our brave JK Police jawans SgCT Mohd Sultan and Ct Fayaz Ahmad at Bandipora. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs. We are firmly resolved to avenge this barbaric action by the enemies of peace & determined to completely dismantle the militant ecosystem. J&K administration will extend all possible support to martyrs families”.
