SAMBA, May 2 : Fifteen shanties were burnt to ashes in devastating fire in villages of Karalian and Chak Daulat in Ramgarh tehsil of Samba district today after the fire which started from the wheat crop fields engulfed the local basti and destroyed the 15 ‘Kullas’ completely.
The cash, jewelery, documents and all household items kept inside the ‘Kullas’ were burnt in the fire. Three fire engines rushed to the spot to control the blaze but in vain. The incident took place this afternoon when Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sarwa village, set fire to a crop in the fields of his son Pukhu Ram under suspicious circumstances. The fire of the dry wheat crop standing in the four Kanals of land engulfed the area due to the light winds. The fire spread towards the Karlain, Chak-Daulat and Sarva. It destroyed every thing in the way.
As the police received information it rushed to the spot. Meanwhile Fire Brigade from Samba , Bishnah, Bari -Brahmana , Arnia were also requested to reach the accident site by police. By the time three fire brigades reached the site, the fire had caused a lot of damage.
The locals also tried their best to put off the fire along with fire brigade team and after a long and hard struggle, the fire could be controlled. However no loss of life was reported.
The police has registered a case and started investigation. The Revenue Departmental officers also started assessing the damage caused.
In addition , straw pots, paddy straw, pump sets machinery, etc. were damaged in hundreds of kanals of land belonging to farmers in devastating fire.
The fire victims have demanded that the assessment of the loss and payment of compensation accordingly. They have made an appeal to DC Samba in this regard.
